Hi there!
During school year we're always stressed, tired, sleepless and waiting for summer holiday to come but now that we don't have to get up early to go to school, study, do homework and an endless etc, we don't know what to do with all this sudden free time...
At least that is what happens to me... (//▽//)
So I'm going to give you some suggestions for summer pastimes! (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡
No. 1 - Books!
• Invisible Monsters
Shannon is a former fashion model that gets her face disfigured by a gunshot injury and becomes an "invisible monster" since no one dares to look at her. In hospital she meets Brandy Alexander, a transgender woman and... That's all I can say without spoilers, sorry! (^^#)
At first the book is quite weird and you're just like "what the hell are you talking about" since it follows a non-linear motion, but as you keep reading it gets more and more interesting and you begin to understand. I think that if you're an openminded person that doesn't get disturbed reading about homosexuality, injuries and drugs, you'll like it. On the other hand, if you prefer simple and easy to read novels, that doesn't make you think about diferent topics, this is not for you, skip to the next one, please. Of course this book is not perfect, nothing is ever perfect, it's got some faults but I'm just giving you my opinion and for me it's really a great novel, so give it a chance! (´。• ᵕ •。`)
This is actually my favourite book and I wrote an essay for my English class about it and got an A+!
• The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
Hadley Sullivan have missed her flight, she's stuck at JFK airport and late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London. It seems like one of the worst days of her life, but then she meets Oliver, a cute british boy who's sitting in her same row... (*♡∀♡)
Since some of you may be looking for some light reading to pass the time with, I'll suggest this one. This book is quite short and easy to read, the story narrated happens in just about a twenty-four hour period. I think the author pulled it off pretty well, it doesn't feel forced that they can fall in love in this short period of time and Oliver is just Perfect. And when I say perfect, I mean P-E-R-F-E-C-T. I loved british boys and I started to love them even more after reading this.
Everything in this book is so sweet and cute, sometimes you just can't help it but smile while reading.
• After Dark
The story of this novel set in Tokyo, over the course of one night.
Mari Asai is spending her night reading in a Denny's when she meets Takahashi Tetsyta, who was once interested in Eri, Mari's sister, and insist that this is not their first encounter. Parts of the story take place in a world between reality and dream, and each chapter begins with an image of a clock depicting the passage of time throughout the night.
This was the first Murakami novel I ever read and I regret nothing. To be honest some of his books are weird, really weird, but in a good way, I guess, and they all have supernatural things so at first I was just reading and reading to know when things would make sense but that never happened and... That's how I got addicted to his novels... orz
If you have never read anything from Murakami before, I think After Dark is a good introduction to his world and if you have already, you'll be used to his weirdness and enjoy a lot the book ~ (//▽//)
And here are my book recommendations for this summer! Have you already read them? Any book that is worth reading? Tell me andcomment! ❤️
With love
Susy
